Lotus Notes overview

The information in this help file is valid for applications making use of Intellisync’s support for all available features. For example, your application may or may not support Filtering or Field Mapping. Depending on your application’s level of support, some information may not apply.

Intellisync supports Lotus Notes in Connected (online) mode and in Island (offline) mode. Intellisync automatically determines which database to synchronize but you can change the Contacts and Journal database from the Lotus Notes Database Name option in the Options dialog box. The Calendar and To Do database is specified in the Lotus Notes Location document.

The Lotus Notes application can remain open during synchronization, but it is strongly recommended that you close the database.

iNotes

Intellisync supports iNotes for the standard iNotes template.

Information that is not synchronized

The following Lotus Notes information is not synchronized:

  • Text fields (like subject or location) whose characters exceed 32763 bytes. Only characters up to 32763 are synchronized.

  • Repeating meetings that are saved as a Draft

  • Encrypted or Prevent Copy To Do task records.

  • Custom fields.

  • Changes to the appointment type for meetings.

  • Encrypted fields.

  • Formatted text and embedded objects in Journal records.

  • If you transfer a record containing an embedded object to your device and then edit the item in your device, during the next synchronization the embedded item is moved to the end of the record.

  • If you transfer a record containing formatted text to your device, and then edit the item in your device, during the next synchronization the formatting is removed from the record.

In general, Intellisync does not support the synchronization of custom templates.

  • If a custom template is not based on the default template, no fields are synchronized.

  • If a custom template is based on the default template and has added fields, the additional fields are not synchronized.

  • If the custom template is based on the default template and has fields removed, blanks are inserted in place of the deleted fields during the next synchronization.

Clean Sheets

Intellisync transfers Lotus Notes Clean Sheets as Memo records. When Clean sheets are synced, their form is not affected and a new Memo record is created in the Lotus Notes Journal database as a Journal entry.

Changing Modes

If you use Lotus Notes in both Offline (Island) and Online mode, we recommend that you always synchronize from the same mode. If you must change the mode you use when you synchronization information, replicate the Notes Offline and Online folders first.
