Advanced options

Each PIM application that you have selected appears as a tab on the Advanced dialog. From the Advanced dialog, you can specify options to map folders and fields, specify conflict resolution and create filters for the PIM and application you are configuring.

Important!  For Windows XP Professional x64 Edition users using Outlook Express, Outlook Express   must be closed before you begin Intellisync Setup Advanced Options configuration.

Map Folder

If your PIM uses folders, you can specify which folders are synchronized in the Folder Mapping area. This process is called folder mapping.

To map folders, click the Map Folder button. The dialog that appears contains a Help button detailing instructions available for your PIM from the help button on the Map Folder dialog.

Notes:

Changing folder mapping can cause records to be deleted from your device. To ensure data integrity, use the Confirm record deletions confirmation setting if you change folder mapping. This setting allows you to review records before they are deleted.

If your PIM supports multiple folders, you can map additional folders. The folder that appears in bold text is the default folder.

  • Records that you create on the device transfer to the default PIM folder.

  • Records that you create in any mapped PIM folder transfer to the selected device folder.

  • If the default folder is removed, the next folder listed in the Selected Folders box list becomes the new default folder.

  • If you remove a folder after it has been synchronized, records that originated in the folder are deleted from the device during the next synchronization.

Confirmations

Enable confirmation settings to confirm record deletions and to review changes to records during synchronization so you can specify how changes are made.

To specify confirmation settings, Intellisync recommends to select both Confirm Record Deletions and Confirm Changes and Additions.

Conflict Resolution

Conflict resolution allows you to automatically resolve data conflicts or use the default conflict resolution setting, Notify me when conflicts occur. If this setting is selected and a data conflict occurs, the Conflict Resolution dialog box or Same Record Changed and Deleted dialog box appear during synchronization.

To specify conflict resolution, click the Conflict Resolution button and follow the instructions available from the help button on the Conflict Resolution dialog.

Filters

Filters allow you to limit the records that are transferred during synchronization, based on conditions you specify. You can use a different filter for each application section. Intellisync provides the Exclude Private Data filter; you can also create new filters.

Map Fields

Intellisync automatically maps most fields that you want to synchronize.

To map fields, click the Map Fields button and follow the instructions available from the help button on the Map Fields dialog.

Important!   You can change field mapping, but changing field mapping can have unexpected results. If you change field mapping for data that has already been synchronized, the next synchronization that occurs will be a first-run synchronization, which may cause duplicate records or record changes to occur in one or both of your systems.

Before changing field mapping:

  • Back up data.

  • Use a test file first to determine the results of the changed field mapping.
